A NOTE FROM OUR FOUNDER

In 2007, I set out with a simple belief—one that still guides everything we do today.

Healthcare is not a privilege. It is a basic human need, no different than food, water, or shelter. What began as Integral Life Foundation later evolved into One5 Foundation, and in 2024, became the Solventas Foundation. While the name has changed over time, the mission has remained constant. Each chapter has reflected a deeper understanding of how to create lasting impact.

In the early years, much of our work was shaped by my roots in Kansas City. We were deeply involved with the local homeless community, particularly through our partnership with Hope Faith. What began as support evolved into something more enduring—ultimately gifting the organization a permanent facility so it could expand its reach and serve more individuals in need with dignity and consistency. At the same time, our work extended globally—supporting children and families in Haiti, building clinics, and responding to crises in real time. These experiences were formative. They showed us both the power of immediate action and the limitations of short-term solutions. Over time, a clearer truth emerged: lasting change does not come from temporary intervention. It comes from building systems, investing in people, and creating pathways that endure long after we step away. That philosophy shaped our work in Malawi, where alongside local physicians and community leaders, we helped design and develop a healthcare campus that now serves tens of thousands of patients each year. What began as an idea became infrastructure. What began as support became sustainability.

Today, that same philosophy extends beyond global health. We believe opportunity—whether through healthcare, education, or community—is foundational to human dignity and long-term stability. Through partners like Perspectives Academy, we support educational pathways that equip individuals with the tools to build independent futures. Through organizations like Sportsmen for Heroes, we invest in programs that reconnect veterans and first responders with purpose, community, and the outdoors—something that has personally shaped my own life. And through Emma’s Angels—named in honor of my mother—we focus on something equally important, and often overlooked: human connection. This program is rooted in the belief that no one should feel forgotten. By spending time with elderly individuals in nursing homes and assisted living communities, we aim to restore a sense of companionship, dignity, and presence in a season of life where it is too often missing.

While these efforts may appear different on the surface, they are grounded in the same principle: Invest in people. Build what lasts. Solventas Foundation exists to support locally led solutions—whether that means strengthening surgical capacity in underserved regions, expanding access to education, or supporting communities both globally and here at home. We do not believe in one-size-fits-all solutions. We believe in backing the right people with the right resources—and allowing them to lead.

Our role is not to replace local leadership. It is to support it—with capital, expertise, and a long-term commitment to helping it thrive. This work is not quick. It is not simple. But it is necessary. And it is just getting started.
