REDEFINING MATERNAL CARE

As the outpatient clinic expanded, one need became undeniable: safe, consistent maternal care. In the Salima region, too many women were giving birth without trained providers, equipment, or emergency support—often in conditions that made complications life-threatening. The response was intentional. Solventas Foundation funded and helped bring to life a dedicated birthing center—designed not as a temporary solution, but as a permanent, locally operated system of care. The center has already transformed outcomes across the region: 1,000+ births safely delivered; 2,000 antenatal visits annually; Expanded postnatal care and monitoring; A fully staffed 22-person maternity team; Integration of ultrasound technology for earlier detection and intervention. This investment—supported by a $150,000 contribution from the foundation—did more than build a facility. It created a place where women can give birth safely, with dignity, and with access to care that simply did not exist before. A generation of safer beginnings—built to last.
